Gifts of Securities & Wire Transfer Instructions
Did you know making a gift of appreciated securities is one of the easiest ways to increase your support for Sarah Lawrence and make a tax-smart contribution. By donating stock that has appreciated for more than a year, you are able to give up to 20 percent more by avoiding capital gains than if you sold the stock and then made a cash donation. For securities held longer than one year, you can deduct their full fair market value, regardless of what you originally paid for them. You also avoid paying capital gains tax.
Sarah Lawrence will benefit from the full value of your gift and you will not be liable for any capital gains or investment income tax on the investment’s gain.
